  Interview sucked.

Insurance sucks.

Debt collectors suck.

Malfunctioning cell phones suck.

Cranky computer wiring sucks.

Frozen storage units suck.

Bad food sucks.

Ever so much more intelligent, successful, and talented relatives 'surprise' visiting and being annoying suck. (Not really their fault, and I'm on a roll.)

Bad knee sucks.

Numb hand sucks.

....

Tell me I'm pretty.

Yay, anniversary! Wait....
02:17pm 03/12/2009
So I've been unemployed for one year.

To be honest, not quite sure how to feel about this. It's relatively 'status-quo' insofar as my day going by. Little job hunting, a few replies to things, some mucking about online, cleaning the place and doing some exercise. Same old, same old.

Had a huuuge panic attack at three or so this morning that practically flung me out of bed, however. Spent the next two hours pacing in an effort to burn off all that extra adrenaline, much to the dog's annoyance. Still shaking off the after effects of that, since it left me quite drained.

Guess I'm kinda variable on my thinking. Sure, there's low level stuff out there I could get fairly quickly, but no point if unemployment still pays more and my medical benefits are better... and cheaper on COBRA. That, by the way, is utterly pathetic. If you can't beat COBRA costs, your health plan sucks, Mr. Company. Sucks! Er, I digress. So at least that's a positive.

On the other hand there are far smarter/better dressed/more highly educated/far less slothful individuals out there who've been unemployed for longer than I have, and have yet to find anything. Heck, several of you fall into that category.

Meh. I'm just gonna go and be randomly moody about it all day.

Occasionally
10:31am 02/12/2009
Occasionally you run across a few videos online that you have to share with specific friends, or ones that strike your funnybone just right and are ripe for the spreading about online. I have both! What, I'm supposed to have a life?

First up, an example of the 'extreme' videos micro-fad. Most are fairly lame, involving a great deal of screaming and grunting through daily activities as if one were an extreme sports star or possibly an amime character trapped in a truly horrific and low budget series. This one, on how to make and eat a bowl of puffed rice, gets me to snicker almost every time I view it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf8cM7f6P2I

Next up, the dangers of being a mundane at a furry 'con! Well, not quite. But it could be!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCrDgm_H678

And finally, something that made me think of Pyat the second I saw it. He may have posted it some time ago, come to think of things, but I'm too lazy to do a search. Essentially, it's Yet Another online remake of "The Matrix", but this time we're looking at a 'what if' said movie had been shot back when silent films were being made.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAu74d4fGt0

No yelling at me if you're mentally scarred by any of these.

Musical Interlude
02:53pm 30/11/2009
Might have mentioned it before on here, but I'm too lazy to click the search button.

Anyways! I am in love with this song and play it far too much.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10O9kUCAv40&feature=related

Which is odd, since I'm not a big music fan, much less a country/western style listener. Go figure.

It fuels... thoughts.

If it's gotta be explained...
12:38am 29/11/2009
As part of the aftermath of any convention there's always a spate of postings around LJ involving the who/what/when/where and why of any activities witnessed or participated in. Since MFF has such a significant focus on art, it's unsurprising that a lot of these journals discuss what was purchased, or viewed, or fled from. A post that pops up every so often is "I don't get (name of unusual artistic interest, obsession, or fetish here) and keep seeing it. What's with that?"

Now, y'see, I don't get this. It's the age of the interwebs. If it honestly doesn't make sense, you have resources! They can range from a bit of googling all the way up to directly contacting an adherent of said interest, obsession, or fetish and discussing it with them. If you'd rather not, that's cool, but expect a fairly dismissive eye-roll from me over taking the time to fuss over your lack of understanding yet not bothering to do something to educate yourself.

Oh, don't mind me. I'm just being surly. As a proponent of one of the weirder and more difficult to explain fetish interests out there (inflation) I am just a tad worn over its continuous appearance in the lists of "things I don't get" that ever so slightly snide posters make.

Gee, what a surprise...
09:15am 17/11/2009
Some things hold true. I should have seen this coming, I suppose.

Social event coming up? Check.

Seeing folks I only get a chance to see once or twice a year? Check.

Catching a cold that's staging towards a sinus infection? Check...

I'm a bit frustrated right now. This is the third time this year such has happened, and it's already cost me over 150 dollars in nonrefundable fees as well as missing out on visiting a few individuals I've not seen face to face in years. Ah well. We'll see if my immune system (hah!) can win by Friday or Saturday. Vegas is giving me some odds I shan't repeat, however.

*Wheeze*

Ok, doing light deadlifts for a whooole lotta high reps as a cardio exercise?

Agonizing.

Clawed my way to the last rep, settled the bar onto the rack, and fell to my knees in thanks that it didn't have to move anymore. Fucking gravity. Always out to get me.

And then realized I had three more sets to go.

(Aside: Dear heart and nervous system. Screw you! Ahahahaaahah! This is _good_ for you. Signed, the brain)

So yeah. Working my way back into exercise after a year of various medical and mental issue-grade stumbling blocks. Not that said issues are fixed, mind you, but I have verified that shoving sorta heavy things around and running about won't make me drop over dead all unexpected like.

Meh. It's not like I'm any good at it, but at least it's something I can do consistently.

MFF plans collapse
02:10pm 27/10/2009
My previously made plans for attending MFF revolved around sponging some floorspace from a friend. Said friend is no longer able to make it due to financial concerns, so they were forced to bow out of their room. My own financial constraints are such that soloing a room is entirely out of the question. Fortunately I do live close enough that a drive there and back is not crushingly problematical, although I doubt I would bother every day of the 'con.

So, for those of you who will be at MFF, any recommended days I should show up?

Replacement car procured
09:12pm 15/10/2009
  *Doo-de-dooo*

/Level uP/

Meh. I find myself quite ambivalent about this. Got a decent deal on it and even got a warranty of sorts, which isn't bad for a 100K machine. Everything processed through ownership paperwork so far, and once I have the tickets and everything paid off I should pretty much break even. It'll eat more gas, but be fairly indifferent to snow and has a decent ride with a fair amount of room.

This worries me. Waiting for the other shoe to bust out my front teeth while it's kicking me.

Yes, yes. I'm developing a phobia about karma. What's your point.

Kung Fu Zombie
12:51pm 10/10/2009
After seeing Zombieland last night Seph innocently noted that there should really be a movie about zombies using kung fu. Such a statement inevitably led to this result of a google search.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feEUFg86UnM

What, you want a review?

http://community.livejournal.com/metaquotes/7262265.html

This is, perhaps, the greatest Kung Fu Zombie Movie Ever Made with such highlights as

3 MINUTES: ZOMBIE DOGPILE

4 MINUTES: SPIKED PIT OF DEATH

6 MINUTES: FURNITURE FIGHT

8 MINUTES: KUNG-FU BANK ROBBERY

9 MINUTES: INEPT KUNG FU FIGHT

10 MINUTES: EXPLOSION OF ZOMBIES

34 MINUTES: BADASS HAT

36 MINUTES: THE GHOST IS WEARING A HAT

37 MINUTES: EXTREME CROTCH VIOLENCE

42 MINUTES: DISCO CORPSE

Further Adventures of Car
10:57am 07/10/2009
Ok, the repair work is going to cost just a bit more than the car's actually worth, so the insurance company is offering me a totaled out check for roughly half of what I originally purchased the car for. It's either accept that, they scrap the car, and I go looking for another vehicle, or I can accept a bit less, get the car back, and pay for the repairs myself.

I have five days to consider.

Not sure which way to go, honestly. A year ago I would have said "check please!" and started looking into either a new or somewhat used vehicle. Might just go the repair route, depending on how a review with the shop comes out. Apparently it's only a few hundred more than the worth of the car, so that might be the cheapest route to take.

Either way I will be out a thousand or two that I don't really have, so this will take some consideration.

Car accident
05:18pm 04/10/2009
  Awesome weekend all around.

Just walked home from where my car's back tire was folded artistically -along with the bumper- into a formation of waving at local passers by. No one was hurt. The car's been flat bedded to the shop. I'll know tomorrow or so if we are talking scrap or repair.

Got my fingers crossed for the repair. With the shape my credit is in right now a used car loan would be either impossible to get or at a rather ruinous rate.

Weekend Plans
06:37pm 30/09/2009
For those of you that I was going to be tagging along with in a few days. I am presently quite sick with a rather high fever and what appears to be the kickoff to some sinus issues (these always... linger). There are still a few days left, so I'll wait and see what happens, but if I'm feeling like this on Friday I shall have to bow out to avoid infecting anyone else.

Just a small heads up in case I do not appear!

Not Really
02:07pm 24/09/2009
For those few of you who are long term readers of this highly sporadic journal, you are probably aware of my emotional ups and downs. While some folks run through bitterness or sadness interspersed with giddiness and delight, I tend to glide from a level of ever so slightly befuddled enjoyment of life down to a splash landing in sticky apathy, then back again.

The apathy has been pretty bad for a while now.

I am not sad or anything, so I hesitate to label it as any variety of depression. I just suffer from my usual challenge of being unable to get going with any useful projects. Or even terribly useless ones. Presently I get up, do a bit of job hunting, then either read a book or surf online until the am. Lather, rinse, repeat. Friends and family do not get contacted. Bills do not get paid. Leads aren't always followed with the intensity they need.

Yeah, yeah. I have said all this before in posts similar to this, no less. Knowing may be half the battle, but the rest is acting on said knowledge, and that I have not bothered with.

I just fail to care.

Sorry if I have not spoken to you of late. Odds are poor that it will happen any time soon.

Ah, commercials
03:23pm 11/09/2009
Picked up a cold from a roomie. Of course they recovered in a day. Me, I get my lungs flooded and spend the week coughing up sludge.

Their name has been engraved on The List.

This, of course, means I must post of things both pointless and possibly inane.

Commercials!

The advertising industry has spent untold decades of man hours of research as well as billions of dollars in figuring out why/how/where we purchase and what to do to modify said activities. Pound for pound it's possibly one of the most examined facets of human development in existence. So you'd think we would get better commercials than we do, right? Targeted, planned, designed to appeal just to our specific need of the time. Well, no. Sturgeon's law strikes again, with a good ninety percent of all said advertising agencys' efforts equaling crap.

But sometimes it's funny crap! Now this is a company I'd buy either chicken or computer security software from.
