Back in a bit

  Drunk. Carless. Broke. Near jobless.

...

Pathetic.

This must stop. No more self-destruction.

Gonna be offline for a bit to pick up pieces and work on gluing things together. See you all when I have something worthwhile/cheerful to report!

Rats!
05:43am 29/06/2011
So close. An interview that went remarkably well, follow ups that were right on, but someone else nabbed the spot. Thought I actually had this one up 'till the last second. I really gotta learn to not be anticipatory.

Things come, things go
02:09am 16/06/2011
  So!

I'm going to be losing my long term email address at the end of the month. Apparently the provider's lost control of my particular domain name back to its original owner -something about that particular individual calling in copyrights- and is being forced to convert everyone's addy.

No big deal, you might think. Well, I've had said addy for eighteen years. As you can imagine I've had juuuust a bit of time to link far too many websites and online institutions to said address for security purposes. Honestly, I cannot even remember half of my passwords anymore, much less what sites they belong to. The mad scramble to consolidate information has begun, so if you get any odd sends from me over the next week or so it's probably due to me mashing the wrong buttons while digging through old lists.

For those of you who I've irritated over the years with email missives just drop me a note here if you'd like my new address whenever I figure out where it'll be. Most likely just gonna go gmail, but not one hundred percent sold on that as of yet.

Oh hey, on twitter now as 'seritaph.'

Legalities
01:37pm 31/03/2011
After extensive review of my medical records and insurance documentation with a nurse practitioner relative as well as a friend who's an insurance claims adjustor, it's been determined that my prior health insurance company more or less weaseled out of roundabout 7000 dollars in hospital claims, most of which are now in collections.

I could get most of this back if 1. I could afford a lawyer (which I can't) and 2. my time to contest was not up (Which it is. In Wisconsin this is a rather narrow timeframe).

Just a little angry right now....

Chronologically mugged

Got up at four. Went to work. Got home. Got tackled by a few folks and surprise dragged out to a comic convention. Saw many things. Joined SHIELD. Went out drinking at an Irish bar where all the waitresses were wearing five inch kilts. Did I mention I was with Juggernaut and Sebastian Shaw while doing said drinking, cuz I was.

Ok day.

What, 40? When?!!
03:46pm 08/03/2011
As of March 25th I shall have been on this earth for forty years. From certain angles that's a significant chunk of time. Consider! To the average mayfly I'm practically eternal, having existed since the dimmest reaches of antiquity in their ephemeral societies (My official geological listing on their GPS is "That bastard what swats us"). On the other hand most pyramids might view my tenure here the equivalent of sitting up in bed and scratching one's nose before starting the day.

What do I think of this? Good question. Up until the last few weeks it's occupied cognitive space as "just another day", which -admittedly- it is. But, considering the rather fractured significance our society places on this specific birthday (over the hill! Shooting pool with a rope! and other assorted cards) I've started assessing my life slightly more rigorously than is my usual wont.

This, of course, can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

Healthwise? I'm ok. Not great, but surprisingly functional in comparison to the age demographic I'm in. Oh sure, I suck down more medication than I would prefer, and tend to sweat neurological/physical symptoms of my various maladies more than I should, but it could be worse. Considerably so. As of the moment I do not suffer from anything that has me on a specific deadline, and I suspect you cannot ask too much more than that from life.

Financially? Hrm. That's... a bit more interesting. Things are going very poorly in both short and long term aspect, but that places me in good company with a surprising amount of people. Much of my present predicament is my own fault, and while I am working diligently on correcting this I clearly have much to modify and improve on when it comes to handling my employment and security.

Mentally.

...

I'll be honest. I suspect I'm a bit damaged. At present it is impossible to find out for certain, primarily due to my lack of access to professionals that might be able to determine this for certain. In a way this is almost a relief, since knowing for certain holds its own concerns and demands.

All in all, hey! I've made it this far. Just a few more weeks and I will have officially made it past the median lifespan of the last three generations of my extended family.

Not sure how many of you are at or past this point in your lives (I know there's a few on my friend's list!) so I'm just curious. No impact at all for you, or did it make you think a bit? I'd just like to know I'm not the only obsessive one about this sorta midlife mindset.

Meh
06:11am 14/02/2011
Nope, not a Valentine's Day post. I'd forgotten that was sneaking up, to tell the truth. Besides, I sorta enjoy the holiday, even if I've never had a specific reason to celebrate it.

No, no. Simply put, I find me hating everything about my life at present. It's pretty much completely pointless with no joy in to be found in anything. The annoying detail about this is that the majority of the issues that are causing me to feel like so are self inflicted. Tragically, G.I. Joe is a dirty liar, and "Knowing is half the battle" is hardly accurate when it comes to making lifestyle alterations.

Meh. Emo. You'd think I was a teenager or something. Perhaps sleep will shake this; it's yet to succeed after nearly a week, but one can hope.

Not a poetry fan, but...
11:24pm 12/01/2011
One man in a thousand, Solomon says,
Will stick more close than a brother.
And it's worth while seeking him half your days
If you find him before the other.
Nine nundred and ninety-nine depend
On what the world sees in you,
But the Thousandth man will stand your friend
With the whole round world agin you.

'Tis neither promise nor prayer nor show
Will settle the finding for 'ee.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em go
By your looks, or your acts, or your glory.
But if he finds you and you find him.
The rest of the world don't matter;
For the Thousandth Man will sink or swim
With you in any water.

You can use his purse with no more talk
Than he uses yours for his spendings,
And laugh and meet in your daily walk
As though there had been no lendings.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em call
For silver and gold in their dealings;
But the Thousandth Man h's worth 'em all,
Because you can show him your feelings.

His wrong's your wrong, and his right's your right,
In season or out of season.
Stand up and back it in all men's sight --
With that for your only reason!
Nine hundred and ninety-nine can't bide
The shame or mocking or laughter,
But the Thousandth Man will stand by your side
To the gallows-foot -- and after!

-- "The Thousandth Man", Rudyard Kipling

Why, a supertanker conversion kit. What else you gonna pop a wheelie with?

Tom DeLay in Prison

  ... for three years.

Really? Must be nice. I especially liked the defense of "I never intended to break the law." Bet that'd work great for someone who forged a check and got five years.

No doubt it'll be in appeals another two or three years before he serves.

Normally I'm very much for our legal system, quirks and all. This time around I really feel like there's some serious gaming going on in favor of this out and out criminal.

Start of year Quote
05:48am 07/01/2011
This sums things up well. Random quote!

"Dear 2011:

If you try to pull the same shit your predecessor did, I will end you. I'm just saying that accidents have been known to happen: remember 1997? Yeah, neither does anyone else.

Sincerely,

Erelin"

Bit of a headache here since I gave myself a concussion this morning after the dog tripped me down a flight of icy stairs after demanding to be let out at o'dark thirty, but I didn't break anything and the doc let things slide really cheaply, relatively speaking. Lose/win y'know?

  I'm unemployable.

There's something fundamentally wrong with my approach to all this. Or with me. Not sure which. Gotta figure it out, or I'm going to hit the 'in too much trouble to fix in this lifetime' category.

What, it's gone?
04:01am 11/11/2010
Why why why can I not properly use available time?!

First full evening I've had off after the 'major' part time job in ages, with a full four hours to get things done with. So yeah, I utilize it by doing absolutely nothing.

If chronology were a supervillain, I'd be the dude to call. As it is, I'm completely useless.
